This is the journal of birding in the Verde River Valley.
The Verde Valley is a rich land for birders regardless of age, experience or home location. The Valley is largely undiscovered by birders. We hope, that by sharing our bird experiences, you and others will either come here to see for yourselves or, if you already live here, will venture out and put your binoculars to your eyes.
For purposes of this journal (blog if you wish) we are eager for you to share your own experiences and comments with all of us. To that end, we are inviting comments on each post page. Please look over the categories of posts and see if you might find one of them juist right for your own story. If not, post it anyway and we can make a new category for you.
All we ask is that your post focuses on birding in the Verde River Valley or upon natural history notes or experiences in the Verde.
This is a little about me so that you know who is your host:

I am Dennis
I am Dennis and am a happily married 67 year old man with two grown children and two grandchildren. I have lived in Northern Arizona since 1971 when I came here from Ohio to complete a Master’s Degree in Biology. I had, during my first five years, the good fortune to work as a field biologist at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff and found myself spending a great deal of time in the Grand Canyon. We called it “work” but, well … Presently I am semi-retired from my satellite TV business and this gives me time to explore the Verde Valley and to appreciate its many natural wonders and resources.
During the past several years I have become very aware of the fragile nature of the Verde River. Its water is the currency of development. It is clear to me that the security of the River (and all its natural populations) is dependent upon the recognition of the the River as an economic asset to the area. In that regard, I am most eager to expend energy in the cause of bringing “green” minded people into our Valley. This site – verdebirdingtrail.com, is an expression of that focus.
Please enjoy the site, read this journal, participate, and come to visit our riparian bird populations.

Great Website! So happy you’ve done this. It will be a great contribution both to local naturalists, but also for attracting eco-dollars to our area. It’s also a great complement to DvG’s websites.
Keep up the good work!
Dan
