Beaver Creek

Description: This is a fairly undeveloped site with many small trails (cow paths) that crisscross through it. The area immediately around the parking lot is a god example of open high desert scrub with sparse Mesquite. As you walk (hardly hiking) toward the creek bed, the vegetation changes markedly into dense Mesquite/Pine forest. Finally, as you approach the creek itself, the vegetation becomes clearly riparian with tall Sycamore trees and Cottonwoods. Note: the creek can be dry at times of the year.

Administrative Agency: Coconino National Forest

Restrictions and fees: There are no restrictions to hiking or parking. Access is free. Watch for fire warnings during the dry season.

Elevation: 3690'

Ease of road access: parking is immediately off Hwy 179 and is no an issue.

Ease of hiking access: Simply leave your vehicle and walk toward the creek.

Approximate area size: 0.2 sq. miles

Frequency of use by public: Very lightly used.

Parking facilities: Excellent parking

Non-bird Interests: Enjoyable walks through a desert forest.

The Bird List

Please click here to be taken to a general list of birds seen in the Verde Valley. Pay attention to the habitat notes for each species since not all are found everywhere.

A list that is always under construction (see the text to the right) is the list of birds actually seen at this site. That growing list can be seen here.
