Page Springs Sanctuary/Bubbling Ponds

Description: This site (page Springs Fish Hatchery) is built and operated by The Arizona Game and Fish Department and is open to the public. There are several open ponds which are favorite spots for Great Blue Herons and a multitude of ducks. On the other side of the Fish Hatchery is an Audubon Bird Sanctuary which is just as interesting as the ponds. The Bird Sanctuary is lined with old Cottonwood and Sycamore trees which support a rich diversity of riparian bird species. Both of these sites are parts of the Lower Oak Creek  Important Bird Area (IBA) sites listed with the Northern Arizona Audubon Society.

Administrative Agency: Arizona Game and Fish Dept.

Restrictions and fees: There no fees for either area nor are there any for the Fish Hatchery itself.

Elevation: 3524'

Ease of road access: Both sites are accessed directly from paved roads. Both are on the Page Springs road which is situated between Cornville and Sedona, AZ.

Ease of hiking access:  Both the trails around the ponds and the trails within the bird sanctuary are flat and well maintained. These are walks; not hikes.

Approximate area size: 0.4 sq. miles

Frequency of use by public: Moderate to low use. Low birding activity.

The Bird List

Please click here to be taken to a general list of birds seen in the Verde Valley. Pay attention to the habitat notes for each species since not all are found everywhere.

A list that is always under construction (see the text to the right) is the list of birds actually seen at this site. That growing list can be seen here.
