Description: This area is a delight to anyone living in the Cottonwood area because it is easily accessed off the old jail parking area on Main St. in Old Town Cottonwood. The trail begins by cutting throuogh a Cottonwood riparian arae which is surprisingly dense and isolated from the urban town. Soon the trail lopens to a rocky washed flood plain of the Verde River and follows the River downstream for approixmatley a mile. It ends at the access road to Dead Horse S P which is an easy walk away. Administrative Agency: Verde Greenway, Ariz. State Parks. Restrictions and fees: No fees; day use only. Elevation: 3315' Ease of road access: Park in Old Town Cottonwood at Old Jail. Ease of hiking access: Very easy, first part shaded; then exposed. Approximate area size: .2 sq. miles Frequency of use by public: Light to moderate. Parking facilities: Excellent Non-bird Interests: Tour Old Town shops. |
